Pretoria - The Inter-Ministerial Committee on the Marikana tragedy, led by Minister in The Presidency for Performance Monitoring, Evaluation and Administration, Collins Chabane, will this weekend attend the funerals of the victims of the tragedy.
The 32 funerals will take place in different provinces including Eastern Cape, Free State, North West, as well as Lesotho and Swaziland. The majority of funerals will take place on Saturday while a few will take place on 8 September.
"The Committee, accompanied by members of the provincial and local governments, will attend the services to convey a message of support and offer condolences to the families of the deceased," the IMC said in a statement.
Government has so far issued 43 death certificates to families for burials to take place and Government social workers continue to provide counselling to bereaved families, the IMC said.
Assistance is also being provided with regard to funeral needs as required by the families. Transport has been provided for families and miners to attend the various funerals with 18 busses and 17 taxis that will be utilised.
