Pretoria - The Department of Correctional Services and the South African Police Service have launched investigations into the death of a learner during training at the Brandvlei Management Area in the Western Cape.
The 24-year-old learner at the department, died after a firearm went off accidentally during training.
The name of the deceased has been withheld pending the briefing of the next of kin and relatives.
Acting National Commissioner Nontsikelelo Jolingana has expressed shock and disbelief at the news of the tragic death of the learner.
"It is with great sadness to learn of this fatal shooting of the young men, and our prayers and thoughts are with his family and relatives", said Acting Commissioner Jolingana.
The learner was badly injured in the head and rushed to hospital where he was declared dead. - BuaNews
