Pretoria - Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa has been appointed acting Minister for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA).
According to the department, Mthethwa's appointment is to allow for COGTA Minister Sicelo Shiceka time to recover from a bout of illness.
"The department appeals to all, including the media, to allow the Minister (Shiceka) and his family the respect and space to attend to what is undoubtedly a personal matter," it added.
All functions of the ministry and the department that would have normally been carried out by Shiceka will continue under the interim leadership of Mthethwa.
He will be supported by the department's Deputy Minister Yunus Carrim.
