Pretoria - South Africa's swimming sensation Chad le Clos clinched a silver medal in the 100 metre butterfly event at the London 2012 Olympics on Friday night.
All eyes were on le Clos following his gold medal win on Tuesday, but it was the USA's Michael Phelps who won the race and his 21st Olympic medal.
In an interview with local media, le Clos said: "I'm pleased with the silver medal. I never expected that. After the 200m gold everything came into place and I just felt I had a lot of confidence. Obviously I wanted to win the race, but I am not disappointed at all. I am happy."
Le Clos' silver medal adds to the three gold medals South Africa has achieved at the London 2012 Olympics thus far.
South Africa's men's lightweight rowing team clinched gold on Thursday, while Cameron van der Burgh set a new world record in the 100m breaststroke and le Clos won in the 200m butterfly swimming event on Tuesday.
Yesterday, Sport and Recreation Minister Fikile Mbalula said the country was proud of its Olympians and that he was hoping for more medals from Team SA.
