Pretoria - The Executive Mayor of the City of Tshwane, Kgosientso Ramokgopa, has assured residents that the city would strive for better service delivery.

"The provision of quality water and sanitation services will continue to be a priority for the city," he said.

Presenting his first State of the City Address, Ramokgopa said the city is striving to meet the national target of basic sanitation for all by December 2014.

He also hinted on the billing system problem, saying it was receiving attention and that most problems had been resolved.

"We can confirm that while we have a number of worrying cases of residents receiving unreasonable bills, the vast majority of our bills are accurate," he said, adding that they are reading 86 percent of meters on a monthly basis.

Ramokgopa said the city will strive to ensure that pot holes are fixed, and the storm water drainage system and faulty or damage traffic lights are sorted out.

With regard to community safety, Ramokgopa said the city and the Metro Police will continue to strive to bring down the number of accidents and fatalities on the roads.

He said they will be taking harsher steps in dealing with drunken driving. - BuaNews
