Pretoria - A memorial service for the late former Minister of Education and Water Affairs, Professor Kader Asmal has been set to take place on Thursday at the Cape Town City Hall.
The memorial, which will be address by the Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe, is expected to be attended by government representatives, members of Parliament, members of the diplomatic corps, business leaders and the public.
It is scheduled to start at 11am and the public who wish to attend the memorial have been requested to take their seats 15 minutes before the event starts.
"Members of the public who wish to send message of condolences to the Asmal family are advised that condolence books have been placed at the Union Buildings in Pretoria, Tuynhuys and the Asmal home in Cape Town and also at our foreign mission in Dublin in Ireland and Trafalgar Square in London," the Presidency said in a statement.
Asmal passed away at the age of 76 at the Constantia Medi Clinic in Cape Town on Wednesday afternoon. According to his family, he was admitted to the hospital last Friday for treatment of a stomach ailment.
