Polokwane - Limpopo's Roads and Transport Department has been named the country's best public sector department for improving service delivery in the province.
The department won the award at the National Productivity Awards in Johannesburg recently.
"My department has been blessed with a team of loyal and diligent employees who fully understand their individual roles towards the overall goal of the department and government as a whole," said provincial MEC Pinky Kekana.
Department spokesperson Thesan Moodley said the department had excelled in all aspects of the evaluation criteria when it won the provincial phase of the awards in September.
The evaluation looked at the application of new ideas, innovative thinking and sustainability over a period of at least 18 months.
He said the nominees were also judged on the involvement of their staff members and the ability of employees to apply productivity improvement tools and methods.
They were further judged on their willingness to share knowledge with others.
"This also looked at social and environmental benefits, including jobs created and retained, empowerment, improved working conditions, safety and environmental impact," said Moodley.
Meanwhile, the head of Limpopo's Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs, Clifford Motsepe, won yet another Van Ryn's Black Business Quarterly (BBQ) magazine award.
The award was presented to him during the BBQ Van Ryn's 2011 Awards in Johannesburg.
"Motsepe has received 19 awards relating to the provision of excellent quality service delivery since 2009 to date, including being recognised by the Centre for Public Service Innovation (CPSI) for innovative use of information communication and technology for effective service delivery," said department spokesperson Dieketseng Diale.
She said the 10th anniversary of the Van Ryn's BBQ Awards highlighted South Africa's past and present leaders in transformation.
She said the anniversary also served as a tribute to the men and women who paved a way for economic transformation.
