Govt arranges transport for MaSisulu's funeral

Pretoria - Government has arranged transport for mourners to attend the funeral of the late Mama Albertina Sisulu on Saturday.

The Funeral Planning Committee, led by Minister in The Presidency Collins Chabane, says 500 buses and seven trains have been arranged to take mourners to Orlando Stadium for the funeral service.

Transport arrangements are as follows: 120 buses have been organised for the Johannesburg region, 80 buses for Ekurhuleni, 80 for Tshwane, 70 for the West Rand and 70 for Sedibeng.

Buses will collect people at bus stations in the main routes from early in the morning.

Seven trains are set go to Orlando station from Mabopane, Pienaarspoort, Leralla, Daveyton, Springs, Katlehong and Vereeniging stations.

These trains will depart their stations as follows: Mabopane 5:30am, Pienaarspoort 5:30am, Leralla Station 6am, Daveyton 6:30am, Springs 6am, Katlehong (Kwesini) 6:15am and Vereeniging 6:15am.

Accreditation for all VIPs will take place at Johannesburg Civic Centre, 158 Loveday Street in Johannesburg today from 9am until 7pm. Accreditation will also take place on Saturday at Walter Sisulu Hall, corner Malibongwe and Hans Schoeman in Randburg from 6am till 8am.

All VIPs are requested to park their cars on Saturday at Walter Sisulu Hall in Randburg. These VIPs will be transported in buses to Orlando Stadium from 6am on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) will also be providing taxis to the funeral.

The pledge by SANTACO is in recognition and honour of MaSisulu's selfless role and that of her family in the South African struggle that led to the country's freedom.

SANTACO will be engaging with the ANC in Gauteng to finalise the logistical operations for transport.
