Pretoria - National Police Commissioner General Bheki Cele on Wednesday visited the troubled area of KwaDukuza, in KwaZulu-Natal - the scene of violent protests over the past few days.
Residents in the area have been protesting since Monday, when taxi fares were increased.
KZN police arrested more than 150 protestors on Monday on charges of public violence and arson.
The protests have also claimed the life of one person. A woman was shot, allegedly by security guards hired to protect the taxi association.
Protestors have also torched cars and property in the area.
Cele and local police management were in a meeting with taxi operators late on Wednesday afternoon.
