Pretoria - Home Affairs Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma today reiterated the department's commitment to providing IDs to South Africans to ensure they can register to vote.
This is in support of the Independent Electoral Commission's final voter registration weekend on 5 - 6 March 2011.
"The department has a constitutional mandate to provide South Africans with IDs to enable them to, amongst others, exercise their democratic right to vote," said Dlamini Zuma.
"We urge those without IDs to take advantage of extended hours which our officials will be working over the voter registration weekend. We urge those who have previously applied for their IDs but have not collected them to do so over the same weekend."
