Pretoria - Director General in the Department of Public Works, Siviwe Dongwana, has been placed on three months suspension, the ministry has announced.
According to the Minister of Public Works Gwen Mahlangu-Nkabinde, Dongwana's suspension stems from charges related, but not restricted to, insubordination, dereliction of duty, failure to discharge official duties and bringing the department into disrepute.
Dongwana's suspension is effective immediately and with full pay, in accordance with labour relation laws, the ministry said.
The minister also stressed that Dongwana was presumed innocent until proven guilty and that the "transparent and fair process of an official hearing" would complete its work within the three months of suspension.
Sam Vukela, the Deputy Director General of Corporate Services in the department, has been appointed acting director-general for the next three months.
