Pretoria - Officials have been deployed to Reivilo, near Taung, in efforts to respond to issues which led to unrest yesterday, the North West Government and Traditional Affairs department said on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, residents of Reivilo, Boipelo Township and surrounding farms - led by the Reivilo Demarcation Forum - took to the streets in violent protests, which resulted in a row between the group and members of the South African Police Services.
The community is demanding to be incorporated into the Northern Cape province.
"The department is worried about the intensified protest action by the community of Reivilo and surrounding areas. We call on them to exercise patience and restraint. Government appreciates community participation in governance processes, however, protesters should avoid violent disorder which often leads to illegal actions", said MEC Paul Sebego.
