Members of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature (GPL) are expected to embark on a School Readiness Campaign starting on Wednesday, 15 January.
The campaign – which includes visits to several schools across the province – will continue until mid-February.
“This campaign reflects [the] GPL’s commitment to ensuring that schools across the province are fully equipped to receive learners and provide quality education as the new academic year begins,” the GPL said in a statement.
The oversight campaign will be spearheaded by GPL Speaker Morakane Mosupyoe, Deputy Speaker Nomvuyo Mhlakaza-Manamela, Chairperson of Committees Dalton Adams, Deputy Chairperson of Committees Thulani Kunene and Chairperson of the Education Portfolio Committee, Moipone Mhlongo.
“Their visits will focus on assessing infrastructure, safety, learning materials, and educator support. By engaging directly with school management teams, educators, and learners, the campaign aims to identify challenges requiring the government’s attention; and promote accountability within the education system.
“The School Readiness Campaign will take the Presiding Officers to primary, secondary, and special schools across all five regions of Gauteng. The visits will include direct engagements with stakeholders to address barriers to effective teaching and learning,” the statement concluded. – SAnews.gov.za
