Pretoria - Five learners from Jules High School in Johannesburg have been arrested for the possession of drugs and alcohol during a joint crime awareness program conducted at the school.
On Monday, three boys were found in possession of dagga, one girl aged 14-years-old with a 200ml Klipdrift still sealed and the other girl with ten tablets of an unknown drug.
Since the pupils are minors, the Station Commissioner will notify their parents and a probation officer will assess the corrective measures to be taken against them.
The raid coincided with the 16 days of Activism of No Violence Against Women and Children in which the Department of Community Safety is focusing on learners.
MEC Nonhlanhla Mazibuko was shocked at the incident. "It is through indulgence in such substances that pupils end up committing other offences. We are going to act decisively to root out this act of criminality within the school environment in line with school safety program,' said the MEC.
The joint initiative included the Departments of Community Safety, Education, the South African Police Service and the Independent Complaints Directorate.
