Pretoria - Energy Minister Dipuo Peters has welcomed input by stakeholders at the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP2010) public hearings currently underway in various parts of the country.
The Department of Energy is conducting public hearings on the recently released IRP2010 draft. The hearings, which started in Durban last week, are today taking place in Cape Town's BMW Pavilion. The last leg will be a two-day session in Midrand, Gauteng, on 2-3 December.
"I have noted with appreciation the various inputs made by stakeholders ... I call upon all interested parties ... to continue to actively participate in this process in order for us to have a transparent and informed IRP2010," said Minister Peters.
She said the IRP2010 was a critical planning tool ensuring the country had an appropriate energy mix, while leaning towards cleaner forms of energy like renewable and nuclear energy.
The deadline for written submissions is 10 December.
The Integrated Resource Plan is a 20-year electricity capacity plan. It aims to provide an indication of the country's electricity demand, how this demand will be supplied and what it will cost.
