Learners get high on space science

Friday, October 8, 2010

Pretoria - Learners at the Mogale High School in Bapong, North West, were excited about the week-long lessons on space science and technology.

As part of the celebrations of World Space Week, which kicked off on Monday, the Department of Science and Technology had an awareness drive to educate learners about the benefits they receive from space science and technology.

The awareness drive included a talk on space science and technology, and getting the learners to assemble a model of the SumbandilaSat - SA's micro earth observation satellite.

The week encouraged public support for space programmes and got children excited about space. It raised awareness of institutions around the world that are involved in space, and fostered international cooperation in space outreach and education.

World Space Week is celebrated every year. This year's theme was "Mysteries of the Cosmos."
