Pretoria - Government has agreed to the request by labour for an extension in the period of consultation on the wage settlement offer.
The move will provide an opportunity for outstanding signatories to consolidate their position on the settlement offer.
This comes after the expiry of the 21 day period for labour to sign, following the signing of the offer by government.
The extended period for consultation lapses at the end of next week.
Of the unions that have not signed, only one is a Cosatu affiliate.
Minister for the Public Service and Administration Richard Baloyi reiterated that this round of negotiations called for a meeting of the minds and that the continued commitment and efforts by the employer were beginning to bear fruit.
Baloyi remains optimistic that majority of the unions will sign the settlement offer for implementation.
