Pretoria - Bafana Bafana walloped Kenya 2-nil in an international friendly played at the Royal Bafokeng stadium on Wednesday night.
The first goal came in the 68th minutes of the game. Anele Ngcongca made a brilliant run on the far right and delivered an equally brilliant cross, which Leeds United striker Davide Somma scored with a single touch.
The first half saw Bafana totally controlling the game but as usual, Pitso Mosimane's players failed to take advantage of the various goal-scoring opportunities they created.
Somma might have scored the first goal in his second appearance for his country, but he continuously missed more glorious opportunities until he was replaced in the second half.
Andile Jali was a marvel to watch in the middle of the park as a defensive midfielder and he even won the Man of the Match prize.
In the dying minute of the first half, Jali unleashed a volley but Kenyan goal keeper Zacharia Onyango flipped it over the cross bar, giving Bafana a corner-kick.
Siphiwe Tshabalala pulled the corner kick to Stephen Pienaar, who was unmarked outside the box and struck a low grass-cutter shorter into the right corner of the net.
Pienaar was the team's captain as long serving Bafana skipper Aaron Mokoena was on the bench. At times, Bafana defence struggled to contain Kenyan striker Dennis Oliech.
Bafana used the international friendly as their preparatory match for their crucial 2012 Africa Cup of Nations against Egypt next month at FNB stadium in Johannesburg.
However, if Mosimane wants to defeat the African champions, his strikers need to be more clinical in front of the goal post.
In another match, the South African Development Team beat Niger 2-nil on their second match of the Orange African Nations Championship, played at the Medani Stadium in Sudan.
