Pretoria - The Young Communist League of South Africa (YCLSA) in Gauteng has applauded the province for being the top performing province in the 2010 matric results.

It also welcomed the fact that the province had a high turnout rate of full time learners who wrote 2010 matric examinations.

"This shows the growing extent to which young people in the province take education and training seriously. As the YCLSA we appreciate the spirit by which young people in general and all learners in particular have increased their commitment to education.

"Despite all the external pressures such as the global capitalist crises with increased poverty, unemployment and other associated hardships, in particular learners from poor communities have achieved improved performance," said the league.

It said Gauteng's good performance has also come in the context of the year 2010 in which South Africa hosted the FIFA World Cup which was a challenge on its own, and most matches took place in the province.

The YCLSA acknowledges the work that has been done by stakeholders and encourages them to continue working together.
