Pretoria - Hundreds of Metrorail commuters on KwaZulu-Natal's South Coast, who were left stranded this morning after train services were suspended, can breathe a sigh of relief because they are now running as normal and on schedule.
Early on Monday morning angry community of Umgababa decided to block the trains from moving with burning tyres.
According to Metrorail spokesperson for the KwaZulu-Natal region, Thandi Mkhize, the community members were complaining about their councilor.
They resolved to block everything from entering the area, including the trains and other transport from the main road.
"They burned tyres and placed them in the middle of the metrorail lines, blocking the trains from moving in, hence we decided to suspend the operation, which affected a number of passengers using our services during peak hours," Mkhize explained emphasising that the incident is not related to the current strike by public service.
Mkhize has assured commuters that all operations were back to normal as the situation is calm.
"The situation is back to normal and all our trains in that areas are operating in their normal schedule."
