Wednesday, September 15, 2010

Pretoria - The Department of Labour in Gauteng has served a prohibition notice to Tony's Plastics in Roodepoort for non-compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

The department, which has been conducting workplace inspections on compliance with law regulations, found that the company, which is involved in obtaining, sorting and reducing waste plastic products into small pieces which are then sent to recycling plants, did not comply with electrical and fire extinguisher installation regulations.

All the electrical distribution boards have been switched off and marked with Department of Labour warning tape.

The employer was served with a notice preventing it and its employees from using electrical machinery. The notice will be revoked on compliance, failing which the matter will be handed to the Public Prosecutor for a decision.

A follow-up inspection shall be conducted on the employer to check the compliance with the prohibition notice which was issued.
