Management to assist with patients

Pretoria - Hospital managers and CEOs who are qualified doctors and nurses have been requested to leave the comforts of their offices and assist with attending to patients during the public service strike.

The management will thereby complement the services already rendered by the South African National Defense Force health personnel who have been deployed to some of the provincial health facilities.

This follows a decision by North West MEC for Health and Social Development Rebecca Kasienyane to deploy officials with nursing background to various clinics to assist with backlog and deal with emergency cases.

She recently visited various health facilities in the province to assess the impact of the strike and the department's contingency measures. She noted that the level of health service delivery is beginning to improve substantially with promise to get back to normality.

"I am pleased with the commitment of South Africans who are willing to go beyond the call for duty in this time of need. We also appreciate the spirit of volunteerism that we have witnessed since the beginning of the public service strike," Kasienyane said.
