Pretoria - Banyana Banyana secured a confidence-boosting victory in their 2010 CAF African Women Championship warm up match when they thrashed Zimbabwe 4-nil at Makhulong stadium on Sunday.
The neighbouring visitors were under attack from the first minute of the match with 17-year old Jermaine Seoposenwe and Limpopo-born lethal striker, Noko Matlou troubling the Zimbabweans defence.
Despite their brilliant performance, Banyana Banyana squandered a lot of goal scoring opportunities, however, the blaring sound of vuvuzela's seemed to keep up their momentum.
President Jacob Zuma and Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane, who were also in attendance, were in high spirits following the great performance by the girls on the pitch.
Matlou's right-footed strike from 27 metres out of the box in the dying minutes of the first half earned Banyana Banyana a standing ovation from the two leaders.
It was the 35th goal for the African Player of the Year in the national team's colours. In the second half, the home side put more pressure to the visitors.
Three more goals came from substitutes Mamphasha Popela, Amanda Dlamini and Seoposenwe.
Banyana will play their CAF African Women Championship Group A opening match at the Sinaba Stadium, in Daveyton against Tanzania on 31 October, Nigeria on 4 November and Mali on 7 November.
The tournament which will take place in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality will end on 14 November, with the two finalists qualifying for the
2011 FIFA Women's World Cup in Germany.
