Pretoria - Francois Beukman, the Executive Director of the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), has tendered his resignation to pursue other interests, the Police Ministry says.
In a statement, the ministry said that Beukman was currently serving notice and would officially relinquish his position on 31 August 2012. He was appointed in August 2009 and his contract was due to come to an end in August 2014.
"The Minister of Police Nathi Mthethwa has accepted his resignation and further thanked Beukman for his valuable commitment and service during his tenure as head of IPID. The minister wishes him well for his future career endeavours," said the ministry.
Koekie Mbeki, Chief Director Legal Services at IPID will be Acting Executive Director of the IPID from 1 September 2012, until a permanent head is appointed.
