Pretoria - The Presidency today donated books to the Clapham High School in Pretoria.

This was in response to the school's request to for a donation project with the aim to improve their school library.

During National Book Week in September 2010, the Knowledge Management and Library Services of The Presidency made a request to all staff members to join the venture of collating useful and relevant books to donate to Clapham High School.

The books will go a long way to addressing the country's illiteracy rate.

Research has shown that many learners who complete Grade 6 are not able to write even simple sentences or do basic arithmetic.

But for learners with access to library resources, they tend to have better literacy levels, achieve more and generally have a greater success rate.
