Bloemfontein - Sports can unite the country, bridge boundaries and help people achieve their potential, says Minister of Sport and Recreation Makhenkesi Stofile.
The minister was speaking during the launch of the Free State School Sport Controlling Body on Wednesday.
The structure hopes to encourage participation in sport activities for all learners at school level.
Stofile said sports in the Free State had been placed in the right hands, with passionate teachers and drivers at the forefront, adding that the structure will ensure learners play sport and participate in recreational activities.
"We must mobilise sport and develop it to get it right. Parents need to be fully engaged and supportive of their children and sports in their schools."
He said sports could play a major role in uniting the country, bridging boundaries and for people to achieve their potential.
Free State MEC for Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation Dan Khothule said it was imperative that young sportsmen and women be given the necessary support to nurture their talent in sport.
The sports body was established from code committees, regional committees and district committees constituted by various schools in the Free State.
All school sport related matters will be coordinated through the structure, including its management and control for full participation of schools.
