Pretoria - The seven police officers who were tragically killed in a helicopter crash last week will be honoured by colleagues and family during a memorial service on Thursday.
Five members of the National Intervention Unit (NIU) and two members of the Pretoria Air Wing unit died while responding to a robbery in Witbank, Mpumalanga on Friday.
Their helicopter crashed about 5km outside Witbank and exploded, killing Colonel Teboho Percy Maduna, Warrant Officer Colin Davids, Warrant Officer Dirk Cornelis van Aswegen, Sergeant Jacobus Henning and Sergeant Daniel de Bruin from the NIU.
Captain and pilot Wikus Zaayman and Warrant Officer Thinus Gouws, from the Pretoria Air Wing unit were also killed.
Police spokeswoman Brigadier Sally de Beer said the memorial service would take place at the Hatfield Christian Church in Pretoria on Thursday. Police Commissioner General Bheki Cele is expected to attend the service.
