Pretoria - The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) board is to appear before Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Communication later this month to discuss the parastatal's woes.

Committee chairperson Ismail Vadi said on Thursday that the decision to call the board before the committee was prompted by an apparent corporate governance crisis within the board.

The meeting is scheduled for 24 August where the board has been asked to report on its revised turnaround strategy for the SABC, the functionality of the board as well as the controversy relating to head of news and current affairs Phil Molefe's appointment.

Molefe was appointed in May, however the board was opposed to his appointment and it has been declared unlawful.

SABC spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago confirmed to BuaNews that the board will present before the committee.
