New DG for Public Works

Pretoria - Cabinet approved the appointment of Siviwe Dongwana to the post of Director General in the Department of Public Works.

The department, which overseas government's multibillion-rand job-creation, has not had a permanent director-general since April last year.

Last April, Manye Moroka resigned as Public Works DG, and was succeeded by Solly Malebye as acting DG until November, when Sam Vukela was appointed as acting DG.

Dongwana will head the department that is chiefly responsible for overseeing and maintaining all government's national fixed assets and properties, and steer it as a top driver of economic growth and job creation.

Prior to the appointment, Dongwana was Director of Enterprise Risk Services at Deloitte.

Rachard Samuels and Sasadevi Subban were appointed as deputy director generals in the same department.

Meanwhile, Baby Tyawa was appointed as the new CEO for the National Gambling Board (NGB).

Tyawa who is currently the deputy CEO for strategy and content at GCIS will take over from Thebi Moja for a five year period.

NGB oversees matters relating to casinos, gambling, betting and wagering and it promotes uniform norms and standards in relation to gambling throughout South Africa.
