Pretoria - Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Rural Development and Land Reform will be visiting the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal this week to check on progress made.
During the five-day visit, which kicks off on Monday, the committee will monitor and assess progress made with regards to implementation of rural development initiatives under the Comprehensive Rural Development Programme (CRDP).
Launched last year, the CRDP is a national project of government, with the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform as a facilitator to ensure rural development takes place at the required depth and scope.
During the visits, the committee will look at the challenges encountered by land reform beneficiaries and find out the extent to which the recapitalisation and development program will bail out distressed land reform projects.
It will further explore the impact of the Land Rights Management Facility on farm workers or dwellers and occupiers of commercial farms, as well as gain insight and understanding of challenges encountered by the department and Ingonyama Trust with regard to administration of public land.
The visits will start in the Eastern Cape in Mhlontlo and Amathole Municipalities and move to KwaZulu-Natal.
Public members will also get an opportunity to engage with members of parliament on various aspects of the rural development programme.
