Pretoria - A specialist team from the Special Investigative Unit (SIU) will follow up on the Auditor General's report on alleged governance transgressions and weaknesses at the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).

SABC Board chairperson, Dr Ben Ngubane said the special team from the SIU is at the invitation of the board.

This after investigations by the Auditor General led to a report being submitted to Parliament in September 2009. At the time the Auditor General noted that it had been unable to complete its investigations into all matters raised by Parliament and recommended additional areas for investigation.

As the chairperson of the board, Ngubane in January said the incoming board would implement the recommendations of the Auditor General.

Members of the SIU as well as SABC management met on Tuesday to discuss the unit's scope of work which includes the review of policies, procedures and systems of the broadcaster.

It will also seek to establish compliance with the Public Finance Management Act and corporate governance protocols.

"We welcome the move by the Board to reinforce our own internal review of the recommendations of the Auditor General by providing us with specialised personnel that will assist us in the process of ensuring that the integrity of the SABC is restored, as we embark on a journey to turn around the organisation,' said SABC Group CEO Solly Mokoetle.

The initial process of investigation will focus mainly on the following areas of SABC business including HR policies and system and corporate finance system.

Upon completion of its work, the SIU team will submit its report to the SABC Board which will report to Parliament.
