Pretoria - Government is working around the clock to secure the release of four South African peacekeepers kidnapped in Sudan this week.

"We wish to assure the South African public that we will pull out all stops to bring them home soon," said Department of Defence spokesperson Siphiwe Dlamini on Thursday.

The four members of the South African Police Force are in the Northern African country to assist the Sudanese police force.

"The South African government is using all diplomatic channels to ensure the safety of these South African citizens.

"Officials from the Department of Defence are in close contact with their counterparts in the South African Police Force and the Department of International Relations and Co-operation," said Dlamini.

The police are in contact with families of the kidnapped peacekeepers who were last seen on Sunday.
