Pretoria - Community members have been warned that criminals are posing as Ekurhuleni Emergency Services personnel to gain access to homes.

According to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, the criminals are preying on unsuspecting people and industries under the guise of doing inspection work in order to carry out criminal activities.

Incidents have occurred in the community and industrial areas of Primrose and surrounding areas and cases have been opened with the Primrose police.

"These criminals identify themselves as 'Shawn', 'Ten Cents' and 'Brandon' but our residents should not be deceived. We ask residents to be vigilant before allowing access to people without getting their municipal identification cards," Zweli Dlamini, metro's spokesperson said.

He added that according to the Emergency Services By-Laws people are prohibited from impersonating or pretending to be members of emergency services.

"Anyone with information regarding these criminals should contact their nearest police station," said Dlamini.
