Road closures in Durban on Saturday

Pretoria - Motorists in Durban have been warned of several road closures around the Absa Stadium tomorrow ahead of the Absa Currie Cup match between the Sharks and Xerox Lions.

Traffic is expected to be disrupted on Isaiah Ntshangase Road (Walter Gilbert Road) which will be a one-way for vehicular traffic from Masabalala Yengwa Avenue (NMR Avenue) to Umgeni Road from 1.30pm to 8pm. However, people with disability who park in front of the Shark Cage may enter via Umgeni Road.

Jackson Drive will be one-way from Smiso Nkwanyana (Goble) Street to Masabalala Yengwa (NMR) Avenue from 9am until 8pm and, only parking permit holders will be permitted access.

There is no pay on the day parking, in the immediate Absa Stadium Durban precinct.

On-street parking will be available in Umgeni, Livingstone, Adrian, Lilian Ngoyi (Windermere) and Percy Osborne Roads on the west side of the stadium. Parking will also available on Snell Parade, in the vicinity of the Durban Country Club Beach Area, Blue Lagoon and the beachfront.

The drop off points for northern areas will be on Masabalala (NMR) Avenue (East side) near the Durban Country Club through a small gate. Archery Club (Gate F) will be used for drop-off and pick-up.

Motorists should also be aware that Isaiah Ntshangase (Walter Gilbert) Road will be closed to traffic at Umgeni Road. Therefore, drop off point number one in Umgeni Road and Isaiah Ntshangase (Walter Gilbert) intersection and drop off number two is Walter Gilbert Road by the Virgin Active gym, entry from MR Avenue only.

Metro Police spokesperson Senior Superintendent Joyce Khuzwayo said urged rugby fans to arrive early at the stadium to limit congestion.
