2010 LOC disbanded

Pretoria - The 2010 FIFA World Cup Local Organising Committee (LOC) has closed up business and transferred all outstanding activities to the South African Football Association (Safa).

The 2010 LOC is the brains behind the years of meticulous planning responsible for the successful staging of the first FIFA World Cup on African soil.

From the minute the 2010 World Cup was awarded to South Africa, to the final game, they were ultimately responsible for every function relating to the World Cup.

The closure of the LOC means that all assets and liabilities of the organising committee have been assumed by Safa.

Safa president Kirsten Nematandani said: "I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the work done by all involved with the LOC, mainly chairman Dr Irvin Khoza, Dr Danny Jordaan as the CEO, LOC board members and everyone who contributed to make sure we hosted the most memorable FIFA World Cup in living memory.

"We made a profit and this legacy of the 2010 FIFA World Cup will benefit several generations to come. Part of this legacy will drive soccer development in all of the 52 Safa regions."

As part of the 2010 FIFA World Cup legacy, Safa will complete the delivery of artificial pitches to all 52 regions and has already procured 52 vehicles and 21-seater buses for all of its regions for delivery later this year.

"All this is part of the 2010 FIFA World Cup legacy and this responsibility will now be overseen by the national association," said Nematandani.

He said because of the 2010 FIFA World Cup success, Safa is on a better financial footing than ever before.
