Pretoria - A driving school operator and an official from the Mooi River driver testing centre in KwaZulu-Natal were on Monday granted bail of R3 800 each when they appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court in connection with sale of learner permits.
Zandile Dlamini, also known as Zandile Mvelase from Dedication Driving School in Escourt and Skhumbuzo Innocent Ndlovu, an official based at the Mooi River driver testing centre were arrested on Friday after months of investigation by the National Traffic Anti-Corruption Unit.
It is alleged that Dlamini collected money from candidate drivers and passed it to Ndlovu, who issue learner licences without testing the candidates.
The duo will appear in court again on 30 January 2017.
The arrest of the two follows the arrest of 12 officials and runners in Benoni, Gauteng and two from Secunda, Mpumalanga, last month.
Further investigations are being conducted to identify the people who obtained their driving licences from these officials. These individuals may face criminal charges for their involvement in these fraudulent activities and their licences will be cancelled.
The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) calls upon members of the public to report the fraudulent issuing of licences on 0861 400 800 and the information will be treated with confidentiality.
The fraudulent issuing of licences is suspected to be a major contributing factor to the high number of crashes and fatalities in the country.
The RTMC is expected to make more arrests in connection with investigations that are currently underway throughout the country. – SAnews.gov.za
