Pretoria - A 31-year-old man has handed himself over to Johannesburg police in connection with Tuesday's arms cache find in Katlehong on the East Rand.
The man went to the Johannesburg Central police station on Thursday, the police's Vish Naidoo said.
On Tuesday, a team of investigators found a stash of explosives, firearms and ammunition in an out-building of a house.
Investigators were led to the house in Mukhari Street, Khumalo Valley in Katlehong - which is thought to be used as a storage facility for the armoury - by intelligence reports.
The stash of arms included five mini limpet mines, four detonators, two RPG 7 rocket propelled grenade launchers, six F1 hand grenades, a CSC rifle grenade, two AK-47 assault rifles, three Uzi sub-machine guns, one R1 rifle, one .303 rifles and one silencer.
Ammunition for the weapons was also seized, including 7.62x39mm rounds used by the AK-47, 7.62x51mm used by the R1 and 5.56x45mm used by the R4/R5 series assault rifles. Also taken were 9mm pistols, .38 revolver and shotgun rounds. A number of gold bracelets were also found among the arms.
"He [the suspect] is currently in police custody, and he's likely to face charges of being illegally in possession of explosives, arms and ammunitions," said Naidoo.
He will appear in the Germiston Magistrates court on Monday.
In the meantime, the owner of the house, Rosetta Sindiswa Stoff (52), who was taken in for questioning on the day of the raid, has since been charged. She appeared in the Germiston Magistrates court this morning.
She has been remanded in custody until Thursday, 20th January when she will reappear in court for a formal bail application.
Naidoo added that investigations into this case are continuing and more arrests are likely to be effected.
Another weapons cache was discovered in Witfield on the East Rand on Thursday morning.
