Pretoria - Golden Arrows player, Philani Shange, has been fined R120 000 by the National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) of the South African Football Association (SAFA) for using a banned substance.

Shange tested positive for using cannabis on 14 November last year during a fixture between his team and Mpumalanga Black Aces.

SAFA's communication manager, Morio Sanyane said: "The NDC fined Shange R120 00 which is wholly suspended for two years, provided he is not found in similar transgression; and he is to attend a programme which teaches on the dangers of drug abuse and submit a report to SAFA on completion."

In handing down judgment, the NDC said it took into consideration that Shange had pleaded guilty and that he had shown remorse and that he is a first time offender.

The player was charged for contravening the regulation in terms of the South African Institute of Drug Free Sport, South African football Association Anti- Doping Regulations, and FIFA Regulations relating to doping.
