Bafana move up the ranks

Durban - Bafana Bafana has moved up 17 places in the FIFA World rankings and now occupies the 66th position.

The South African Football Association (SAFA) on Wednesday welcomed Bafana Bafana's improved standing.

SAFA CEO Leslie Sedibe has attributed the improved Bafana ranking to the hard work leading up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

"This is good news and a great measure for return on investment. The camps in Brazil and Germany have resulted in victories against quality oppositions like Denmark, Colombia and France just to name but a few.

"Bafana Bafana's rise is an indication that the Association is on the right track in terms of repositioning our national teams. SAFA's quest for continental football glory is inevitable," said Leslie.

The CEO added: "As a country we have just staged a successful 2010 FIFA World Cup, and it is incumbent upon us as the leadership of football to transfer that winning and championship mentality onto the football fields across our beautiful country".

Spain is in first place, while runners up of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the Netherlands is in second place. Brazil is ranked third.
