Basetsana trials kick off in Pretoria

Pretoria - The selection trials for the South African under 20 women's national team (Basetsana) starts on Thursday until Saturday at the High Performance Centre (HPC) in Pretoria.

Basetsana head coach Sheryl Botes will scout talent from resident players at the HPC, players participating in the Sasol league and those from the under 17 women's national squad (Bantwana).

Bantwana made an appearance in the FIFA U17 Women's World cup in Trinidad and Tobago in August 2010, while players from the HPC took part in the Zone 6 games in December 2010 under Coach Anna Monate, who is currently the assistant coach of the under 17 women's national team.

Botes is hoping to use the experience of the young players from the World Cup to her advantage in a bid to build a strong squad ahead of the qualifiers in October this year.

"I am looking for a good combination of players, those who show creativity in the midfield, a strong attacking strike force and a strong defence in the back," she said.

Botes will be assisted by Bongani Yengwe in the selection process.
