Thohoyandou - Limpopo's Vhembe District Municipality has set aside R3.5 million for school leavers whose parents are unemployed and cannot afford to send them to tertiary institutions this year.
The deadline for applications is 12 January.
"We want to invest in the future of promising learners whose families are too poor to pay for their education," explained district mayor Falaza Mdaka.
He said the bursaries would cover tuition, text books and accommodation.
"Bursaries are available for students who want to study civil engineering, electrical, mining or chemical engineering, auditing, financial accounting, economics or business management in the areas of tourism and agriculture," Mdaka said.
In return for receiving the bursaries, successful applicants will be expected to work a least for the district municipality for two years.
Applicants must live in the area and their parents must be unemployed.
Application forms are available at the municipality's head officer in Thohoyandou.
