Pretoria - Cabinet has wished matrics well with their final examinations, which entered day four on Thursday

"[We] would like to wish the Class of 2010 the best of luck with their exams," said Vusi Mona, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS).

He said at its ordinary meeting in Cape Town on Wednesday, Cabinet acknowledged and commended the partnership between government and civil society in supporting this year's matrics.

Most matrics across the country today are writing their first Afrikaans paper.

In total, 198 papers will be written in 39 subjects during the six-week long exam period by about 642 000 students.

The recent three-week public sector strike and long mid-year holidays due to the World Cup impacted on schooling. However, a catch-up programme and learning camps were put in place to help learners get ready to the best of their ability.
