Johannesburg-A colourful ceremony filled with rich African dance and cultural display opened the 7th edition of the CAF African Women Championship at the Daveyton Sinaba Stadium on Sunday.

The ceremony, which lasted about 20 minutes, was packed with hit songs of the late South African Pop sensation Brenda Fassie, "Bra" Hugh Masekela and Chomee.

Groups of boys and girls performed several African dances, led by Chomee and her dancers.

When the host team players walked onto the pitch, a certain buzz filled the stadium with local fans waving their national flags.

R Kelly's World Cup hit song, 'Sign of a Victory', blasted throughout the stadium that was painted yellow and green by fans who were decked out in the national team's jersey.

The eight participating teams at the tournament which will end on November 14 are South Africa, Nigeria, Cameroon, Algeria, Tanzania, Ghana, Mali and the defending champions, Equatorial Guinea.

The tournament will see the two teams that will go through to the finals qualify for the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup in Germany.
