Pretoria - The South African Reserve Bank is calling for nominees of executive directors to sit on its board of directors.

Non- executive directors, said the central bank on Tuesday, will serve for a period of three years. The term of office of the three current board members expires this year.

The Reserve Bank said the names that will be put forward at its ordinary general meeting scheduled for 8 December will be drawn from nominations made by the public.

"The bank calls on all South Africans, including the private sector, trade unions and civil society to nominate fit and proper candidates for consideration as non-executive directors of the board," it said adding that any shareholder, current director of the bank and the public may make submissions.

The nominations will be considered by an independent panel chaired by Governor Gill Marcus whose members represent government, business, labour, community members and a retired judge.

"Candidates for the Board must be fit and proper, and have the necessary standing, knowledge and experience to serve on the Board."

Nominations for the Board close on Thursday, 30 September 2010 and should be sent to acting secretary of the bank Dr Jannie Rossouw, P O Box 427, Pretoria 0001 or emailed to Jannie.Rossouw@resbank.co.za
