Pretoria - The 2013 Africa Nations Cup (Afcon) debutants, Cape Verde, continued to cause more upset when they forced Morocco to a 1-1 draw in their second group stage match played at Moses Mabhida Stadium last night.
In their opening match, the Blue Sharks also embarrassed and denied Bafana Bafana a win, but instead held them to a scrappy goal-less draw.
With a small population of 500 585, Cape Verde showed no respect to the mighty North Africans throughout the first half, leading them to get to the back of the net in the 36th minute through Platini.
The Cape Verdians should have scored more goals as Julio Tavares, Ryan Mendes and Platini were always posing more threats and exposing the sloppy defence of the North Africans.
However, in the second half, Morocco came back with more fighting spirit to get an equaliser, which only came in the 77th minute through substitute Youssef El Arabi.
Following Bafana's 2-0 win over Angola in the first group A match, which earned them four points to lead the group, Cape Verde are on the second spot with two points and they still have a chance of progressing to the knock-out stage.
Morocco is also on the third position with two points, followed by Angola with one point. To book a place in the knockout stage, South Africa needs to beat Morocco to avoid any disappointment.
They will now play their last group stage match against Angola at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth, while Bafana will face Morocco at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday. -SAnews.gov.za
