Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth, and Persons with Disabilities (DWYPD), Sindiswa Chikunga, is expected to launch the Disability Rights Awareness Month (DRAM) 2024 in Lenasia on Monday.
DRAM is observed from 3 November to 10 December every year, with the final day recognised as International Day of Persons with Disabilities, as well as the National Disability Rights Awareness Day.
According to the DWYPD, this year’s theme for the month is: “Celebrating 30 Years of Democracy: Creating a Disability-Inclusive Society for a Better Quality of Life and Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities”.
“[The theme] highlights South Africa’s collective commitment to advancing rights and inclusivity for persons with disabilities. The weekly themes for DRAM 2024 focus on inclusive growth and job creation, advocating for the inclusion of children with disabilities, building a capable and ethical State, and fostering safer communities.
“Minister Chikunga will deliver a keynote address underscoring government’s dedication to fostering an inclusive society that values and supports the voices and contributions of persons with disabilities.
“DRAM 2024 will emphasise key national priorities, including inclusive growth, poverty reduction, and the creation of a capable, ethical and developmental State,” the department said. – SAnews.gov.za
