City to engage bus drivers

Pretoria - The City of Tshwane will this morning engage bus drivers who have downed tools in a bid to end their current strike action.

The drivers belonging to the Tshwane Bus Services began their strike action on Tuesday and on Wednesday morning thousands of commuters, including school learners, were left stranded.

City spokesperson Console Tleane said the drivers had not given the City any notice of their strike action.

Details are still sketchy but it is believed the disgruntled drivers are unhappy with their managers.

"The top management of the services had met the drivers [Tuesday] and they then went on strike. Some of the claims are that they do not want some of the managers," said Tleane, adding that no formal grievances have been sent to them.

The city is urging commuters to use alternative transport while it tries to resolve the issue.
