Pretoria - Members of the Portfolio Committee on Economic Development will this morning visit the Medupi Power Station in Lephalale, Limpopo.
The visit is part of the committee’s two-week long oversight programme to assess the success and impact of various state-funded projects, and their contribution to economic development in the country.
The committee has already visited several big and small projects, including Transnet’s locomotives manufacturing site, Gautrain, the Nissan SA Plant in Rosslyn and the multi-million rand Nguni Cattle Project in the North West.
It also held roundtable discussions with the management, beneficiaries and small-scale enterprises around how their job creation and poverty alleviation plans are aligned to the National Growth Plan.
The visit will enable the parliamentarians to ascertain the status of this new power station, which will help address power shortages in South Africa, and the impact of the project on the community and in advancing economic development objectives.
On Friday, the committee will meet with various stakeholders in Polokwane, including the provincial government authorities, business people, cooperatives and members of the public and several state-owned entities reporting to the Economic Development Department. - SAnews.gov.za
