Condolences for E Cape accident victims' families

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has extended his condolences to the families and friends of the victims of the fatal crash, which killed seven people on the N2 between Grahamstown and Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape earlier today.

Amongst the deceased was a two-year-old child, and four other people sustained minor injuries and were admitted to various hospitals.

The exact details of the cause of the accident are still not known.

"As government, we are saddened and shocked by this horrific accident. We are extending our warmest condolences to families and friends of the victims. We also wish those injured a speedy recovery.

"We appeal to all motorists, pedestrians and South Africans at large to respect road rules and drive responsibly to avoid loss of life on our roads,” Zuma said.

Earlier, Correctional Services Minister Sibusiso Ndebele also conveyed condolences to the bereaved families.

Three of the deceased are Correctional Services officials, who were en route to Port Elizabeth to attend a meeting. – SAnews.gov.za
