Condolences sent to families of SANDF members

Pretoria – President Jacob Zuma has sent heartfelt condolences to families of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) members, who died in a helicopter crash, in Mpumalanga, this morning.

“Our hearts go out to the families of SANDF members who died in a tragic helicopter crash in Mpumalanga today during a training camp. 

“We wish the injured a speedy recovery,” President Zuma said at the beginning of his State of the Nations Address, on Tuesday evening.

According to the SANDF, at the time of the accident, the Cessna Caravan C208 plane had five members on board. Three passed away due to injuries sustained and two others sustained injuries and were rushed to hospital.

The aircraft was flying from Sabi Sabi to Lydenburg when it crashed near the Misty Mountain area of Lydenburg at around 10.30am.

According to the SANDF, the Caravan formed part of 41 Squadron that participated in an Operations Training Camp in the Lydenburg area. – SAnews.gov.za
